Before surgery
Preparing well supports recovery
Medical assessment
Blood tests, radiographs and an ECG may be required. Patients with existing medical conditions may need clearance or optimisation.
Consent & anaesthesia
Dr Muserere will explain the procedure, material risks and expected recovery. You will also meet the anaesthetist to discuss the safest anaesthetic plan.
Medication
Tell us about every medication and supplement you take. Blood thinners and some anti-inflammatory medicines may need adjustment.
Prepare at home
Arrange transport, remove trip hazards, prepare a safe resting area and follow all fasting instructions.
Stopping or reducing smoking, maintaining good nutrition and optimising chronic medical conditions can reduce complications and improve healing.
After surgery
Recovery and aftercare
Pain & movement
Take prescribed medication as directed. Move only as advised, as some operations require temporary restrictions.
Wound care
Keep the wound clean and dry. Contact the practice for increasing redness, swelling, discharge, fever or unexpected pain.
Rehabilitation
Physiotherapy helps restore movement, strength and confidence. Follow weight-bearing and assistive-device instructions carefully.
Follow-up
The first review is usually within one to two weeks. Further visits and radiographs are scheduled according to the procedure.
